A FILM THAT CHANGED THE RULES
Originally released in 1975, The Rocky Horror Picture Show stars Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick, with Richard O’Brien as Riff Raff. Directed by Jim Sharman and based on Richard O’Brien’s stage musical The Rocky Horror Show, the film mixes rock music, science fiction, horror, comedy and outrageous theatricality into something completely its own.
The original stage musical opened in London in 1973 and later reached Broadway. The film followed in 1975 — and while it was not an immediate commercial success, it gradually developed an extraordinary following through midnight screenings and audience participation.
Today, Rocky Horror is much more than a movie. It is a cultural phenomenon.
It has inspired generations of fans, performers and musicians, spawned live stage productions around the world and become famous for its audience participation, costumes, callbacks and unforgettable songs including “Time Warp,” “Sweet Transvestite” and “Hot Patootie.”
The film was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry in 2005 for its cultural, historical and aesthetic significance.
REMEMBERING TIM CURRY
This screening is especially meaningful this year.
Tim Curry, whose unforgettable performance as Dr. Frank-N-Furter made him an international star, died on August 26, 2026, at the age of 80. Born in the UK, he made LA his home for decades.
His performance in The Rocky Horror Picture Show remains one of the defining performances of cult cinema — bold, theatrical, funny, provocative and completely unforgettable.
We invite audiences in Trieste to come together to celebrate his extraordinary legacy and experience this iconic film on the big screen.
46 YEARS OF AMERICAN CINEMA IN TRIESTE
Rocky Horror Picture Show launches the 2026/27 American Film Series, continuing a tradition that has brought American films in their original English version with subtitles to audiences in Trieste for 46 years.
The official series begins on November 19, 2026, with THE ODYSSEY, followed by a proposed program of exciting American films throughout the 2026/27 season.
Titles are subject to confirmation, from the Film Distributors.

And there is already a special connection to Venice: John Malkovich won the 2026 Venice Film Festival Volpi Cup for Best Actor for Wild Horse Nine, one of the films proposed for this year’s series.
TWO FREE FILMS FOR EVERYONE
Thanks to the support of the U.S. Embassy to Italy, two films in this year’s program will be presented FREE OF CHARGE to the general public — members and non-members at the American Corner Trieste:

The other films in the series will be screened at Cinema Super, Via Paduina 4, Trieste, on Thursdays at 14:00, 17:00 and 21:00 and will be reserved for members of the Associazione Italo Americana FVG.
